After years of juggling various gigs in the industry, Catherine and two of her closest colleagues, Robinton Hobbs and Joseph Carrillo, came up with the idea to turn delegating into a structured business through a dependable network of musicians. Joy Music House has since contributed to a multitude of projects, including the Academy Award nominated RBG, Amazon’s Homecoming, Sundance darlings Minari and The Last Black Man in San Francisco, the Emmy winning documentary series Wild Wild Country, and many more.

There is still so much to learn about our ever-changing industry. Take a listen to Joy in her own words:

“Such a privilege to be on the One Oh One Podcast this week. We had an in depth conversation about all things creative/freelance life and media music. All relevant to anyone who is either composing music or wants to place music in their movie/series/video game/any media! Thanks so much for having me on. You can watch and/or listen right meow!”

Hailing from Tasmania, Catherine Joy has made quite a name for herself here in LA. Not only is she an accomplished film composer, Catherine is also the founder and CEO of Joy Music House, a full service score production company AND she’s the President for the Alliance for Women Film Composers. She also teaches film scoring for the NYU Steinhardt Masters program. Yeah. This woman is a powerhouse and she believes that creating community and being a part of a community of composers is of most importance in order to navigate the hardships of being a freelance creative.
