I sat there in the Warner Brothers theater just sobbing and clapping. Several times throughout this movie, I had chills and the urge to clap again. I have never experienced that is an industry screening filled with colleagues. This movie is powerful. This review will be shorter than any of my other reviews. Go see

Will Smith plays King Richard to a young Venus and Serena Williams. These talented tennis players wow us around the clock while Smith drags his very flawed and humble prophet through the story of beauty for ashes.
What I knew about King Richard was a false media spin of a charlatan who might not be all bad. Smith brought a genuine grace that not only twists that previous idea, but also lays out simply and kindly that not all heroes wear capes. Growing up in the South with the stories he tells us, no wonder he isn’t an easy pill of a man. But that beautiful family is the hard work of two Black American parents planting pain for a bright future of growth and possibility.
The biggest theme for me in that theater is that their family is unapologetic in who they are, they are being themselves and only themselves. They learn from the world around them, but they are grounded in the security of each other, they are role models for every household. This movie is about being true, having a plan, and working hard. Everyone works so damn hard. I was exhausted.
Bring on the awards, I wanna see a ton of Academy nominees from this list:
