Get a glimpse inside the sensational wolf experience at any age with this emotional and historic instant favorite. Calling on the context of an Englishman in Ireland and the ultra-religious structures holding up their culture, this story also explores the meaning of freedom for different genders, power structures, and society as a whole. Trapped inside a cell of our own making through fear is displayed in multiple analogies throughout this wondrously animated film. Perfect for 8 yrs old and up, this feature contains a handful of pause and convo moments that worked for us and our 3.5 year old. I would highly recommend this film for adults as well, this story has moments that can only be grasped by an adult with the full understanding of the multiple cultural dynamics that apply to our modern world.

In a time of superstition and magic, when wolves are seen as demonic and nature an evil to be tamed, a young apprentice hunter, ROBYN, comes to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last pack. But when Robyn saves a wild native girl, MEBH, their friendship leads her to discover the world of the WOLFWALKERS and transform her into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy. – IMDB

I was in love with the animation style IMMEDIATELY, in fact, that’s why I pulled it up to watch in the first place. Cartoon Saloon‘s Tomm Moore (Song of The Sea) and Ross Stewart (ParaNorman) have outdone themselves.

“As CG drives most of the recognizable animation money-drivers in Hollywood (Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks, etc.), Cartoon Saloon maintains a dedication to the hand-drawn animation medium, which has, in part, influenced its nickname in the press over the years: Ireland’s Studio Ghibli.”
